Stainless Steel 348 Pipes are a columbium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel type, with a composition that contains chromium (17–19%), nickel (9–13%), carbon (max 0.08%), and columbium/tantalum for enhanced stability. The alloy is specially formulated to be resistant to intergranular corrosion following welding. SS 348 pipes have very good mechanical properties, with tensile strength of about 550 MPa, yield strength of about 220 MPa, and good elongation. They provide good oxidation resistance and are good at high temperatures. Their stabilization enables them to retain structural integrity under thermal cycling, making them ideal for use in high-heat applications and repeated temperature cycling.
