Stainless Steel 409 Tubing is a ferritic stainless steel made of iron and chromium (10.5–11.75%) with trace amounts of carbon (up to 0.08%), manganese, silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur, with occasional addition of titanium for stabilization. The composition provides moderate corrosion resistance and good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures. It possesses a tensile strength of approximately 380–450 MPa and yield strength of 170–240 MPa, which is useful for structural and thermal applications. SS 409 tubing is weldable and drawable at ease, offering inexpensive solutions with reasonable durability, particularly in mildly corrosive and heat-exposed applications like exhaust systems and structural parts.
