Stainless Steel 348 Tubing is a columbium (niobium) and tantalum-stabilized austenitic stainless steel alloy, with increased resistance to corrosion when intergranular after welding. The composition is mostly chromium (17–19%), nickel (9–13%), carbon (up to 0.08%), and columbium/tantalum (10 times carbon content). The alloy offers tensile strength of approximately 550 MPa and yield strength of around 220 MPa with excellent elongation and toughness. SS348 tubing is especially effective at operating in high-temperature conditions and is well suited for use where there is continual thermal cycling occurring, such as in welded assembly and high temperature service.
