AISI 4140 tube is chromium-molybdenum low alloy steel with a composition of 0.90–1.20% chromium, 0.15–0.25% molybdenum, 0.75–1.00% manganese, and approximately 0.38–0.43% carbon. It has excellent strength, toughness, and resistance to wear owing to its composition. It exhibits tensile strength of 655–850 MPa, yield strength of 415–655 MPa, and elongation of approximately 25% in 50mm. It also possesses good fatigue strength and impact strength and is most suitable for use where high stress prevails. It is heat treatable and allows for enhanced machinability and hardness without sacrificing pressure performance and dimensional stability.
